Abstract

This research used the numerical analysis programs (PLAXIS 3D) to study the effect of wall thickness, strut spacing and stiffness, geometry of excavation, stiffness and strength parameters of soil on the ground deformations. Empirical methods were evaluated to predict the lateral deformation and vertical settlement in 3D behind the wall. The correlations are compared with case histories. Then the correlations for the response of adjacent structures are evaluated. Finally, flow chart for designers that allow the designer to size the wall and supports, given the allowable soil distortion of adjacent structures or predict ground movements, given data about the soil and support system
