Abstract
Aim of the work : to study and compare the role of cytology and Abram’s needle biopsy against thoracoscopic and Open pleural biopsy(as gold standard) in diagnosis of malignant pleural tumors Methods : Pathology reports from pleural lesion patients were obtained from the archives of the pathology department, Abbaseya chest hospital.Results: Sensitivity of the cytology study is better than of Abram’s needle biopsy but specifity of both is equal in diagnosis of malignant pleural tumors.Recommendations: Use cytology in combination with Abram’s needle biopsy to diagnose pleural malignancy decreases diagnostic dilemmas and also allows the application of immunohistochemical techniques with much ease
