Abstract

Different methods for the determination of some drugs containing phenolic group including 4-Hexylresorcinol, hydroquinone ternary mixture with tretinoin and fluocinolone acetonide were studied. For 4-Hexylresorcinol, stability indicating HPLC, UPLC-MS/MS, TLC-densitometric methods have been developed. The HPLC method was used for the determination of its related impurities, resorcinol and phenol, and the kinetic study of the alkali and photodegradation of the drug. Some of the degradation products were identified by LC-MS/MS. The HPLC and UPLC-MS/MS methods were applied for determination of the drug residues in shrimps. For the ternary mixture of hydroquinone, tretinoin and fluocinolone acetonide, stability indicating HPLC, TLC-densitometric methods have been developed for their determination besides some of their degradation products and the preservatives methyl and propyl parabens. A stability indicating spectrophotometric successive ratio subtraction coupled with constant multiplication method was used for resolving five compounds for determination of hydroquinone with its degradation products, tretinoin and methyl paraben. The HPLC method was used for comparative kinetic study on the photodegradation of the drug mixture. The polymer formed from hydroquinone alkali degradation was characterized by gel permeation chromatography and fluocinolone acetonide photodegradation product was identified by single crystal x-ray diffraction
