Abstract

In this study the effect of different surface treatments on the shear bond strength between PEEK and composite resin. Following ISO10477 guidelines, two different PEEK were used where 30 specimens of each type were prepared. 3 surface treatment groups in each type (control group, sandblasting and atmospheric plasma treatments). Bonding procedures started using Visio.link adhesive followed by opaquer application then veneering resin. Surface roughness of the specimens was measured, and scan electron microscopy SEM was made. Thermal cycling for 5000 cycles between 5 and 55 {u00B0}C in distilled water was done to all specimens. Finally shear bond strength test was determined. Means and standard deviations were calculated using one-way ANOVA. Probability value (p-value) {u2264} 0.05 was considered statistically significant result. Additionally, multiple comparison between different surface treatments of both types were done using POST HOC Tamhane. A statistically significant higher bond strength and surface roughness values were found in sandblasting group in both types of PEEK. this was further confirmed with Scan electron microscope. Sandblasting is still the best convenient method to provide good bonding of PEEK composites to veneering resins. Ceramic filled PEEK yielded higher bond strength than carbon filled PEEK after sandblasting
