Abstract Planing hull boats nowadays plays a very important role as they are needed for commercial, sports, pleasure, and naval activities. As planing hulls provide an effective exceedance for the velocity barriers and limitations that face the conventional round bilge hull form. Planing hulls can be used for different purposes that require very high speed in different fields e.g., in sports such as racing boats, fishing boats, searching and rescue boats and for military purposes naval boats such as fast missile boats. The aim of the thesis is to generate a new design for a planing hull boat based on series 62. The principal dimensions and displacement are taken from a reference boat. The new planing hull design is generated using a developed model which is based on the CAESES program. The hydrodynamic characteristics and performance of the boat are analyzed using the RANS method in combination with SST-K-ω turbulence model. The STAR CCM+ program is employed in the numerical simulation for the flow around the developed hull form. The computed results regarding the resistance and trim conditions are compared with the corresponding values given in series 62. The performance and characteristics of the developed boat design are compared to those of the referenced boat to evaluate the improvement of the hydrodynamic performance. |
