Abstract

Since the early 1990s, iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) have drawn considerable interest in site remediation and treatment of water polluted with organic, inorganic contaminants due to a higher intrinsic reactivity, biocompatibility, and high surface to volume ratio. The high ratio of nanoparticles between surface and volume induces a substantial portion of the atoms to reside on the surface compared to those in the bulk materials. Among the metallic nanoparticles, nano-zero-valent iron nanoparticles (nZVI) have recently been reported as a promising tool and a very successful preference to remove different metal ions including Pb2+, Cd2+, As5+, Cr6+ and organic dyes from aqueous solutions.
