Abstract

It is well established that NAFLD is considered to be the hepatic representation of the metabolic syndrome as hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance play a major role in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. Because insulin resistance is the key component of the metabolic syndrome (often referred to as the insulin resistance syndrome or pre-diabetes) .Microalbuminuria (MA) is an earliest marker of nephropathy and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with prediabetes and diabetes, which is an albumin excretionrate of 30-300 μg/min on a timed collection.
Methodology:
Our study is a cross sectional descriptive study that aimed at assessing association between NAFLD and microalbuminuria in patients of prediabetes among groups of patients admitted to department of Internal Medicine or attended to Out patient clinic of diabetes in Talkha central hospital.
We had 75 subjects divided into 3 groups (25 subjects for each group)group I (controls),group II (prediabetes with NAFLD),and group III (diabetes with NAFLD).Full history taking and clinical examination were done to all subjects.
Routine laboratory investigations were done to all subjects including (FBG ,PPG ,TC ,TG ,HDL ,LDL ,fasting insulin, HOMA_IR ,ALT and ACR).Also subjects were submitted to hepatic ultrasonography scanning for assessing NAFLD and Duplex ultrasonography scanning of common carotid arteries of both sides to determine CA_IMT.
