Abstract

The metal complexes of cefoxitin with Co (II), Ni (II), Zn (II), Mn (II), Cr (III), Fe (III) and Cu (II) were synthesized. The proposed structures of the prepared complexes are based on infrared, UV-Vis, Magnetic Susceptibility, ESR for Copper complex, elemental analysis and thermal analysis (DTA, TGA & DSC). The data suggested that cefexitin acts as a bidentate ligand via the carboxylate anion and carbonyl of amide group. from physicochemical and spectroscopic methods an octahedral structures were suggested for Co (II), Mn (II), Fe (III) and Cu (II), while Ni (II) and Zn (II) exhibited a tetrahedral geometry. DFT studies confirmed the binding sites of cefoxitin as well as energy of HOMO, LUMO and global chemical reactivity descriptors were obtained at the level of theory B3LYP/6-311G. The complexes were evaluated for antimicrobial activity and the results showed that some of the tested complexes have a well considerable activity against the tested microorganisms.
