Abstract

ZnO NPs were synthesized by co-precipitation of zinc nitrate, calcined at 250 °C. Ferric chloride, manganese chloride and tin chloride were used as precursors for preparation of doped ZnO in different molar ratios in the same procedure of ZnO Ag Nps were synthesized onto the surface of ZnO by photochemical deposition in different molar ratios. And then optimized ratios of doped ZnO were coupled with optimized molar ratio of Ag NPs. The synthesized NPs were characterized by XRD, TEM, ICP and DRS. The photocatalytic activity of the doped ZnO NPs was investigated by photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. All NPs had only the hexagonal Wurtzite crystal structure. TEM images show that ZnO NPs were spherical shape but dopants caused aggregation for crystals. Ag NPs were deposited onto surface of ZnO. ICP elemental analysis confirmed that all NPs show that all applied molar ratios entered as is into the precipitated crystal. Ag/ZnO, Fe-doped ZnO and Mn-ZnO NPs had red-shifted band gaps. no change in the absorption edge was observed in Sn-ZnO. The NPs show improvement in the photo catalytic activity under UV irradiation in all synthesized NPs compared with ZnO.
