Abstract Three novel Schiff bases which are (E)-3-((quinolin-2-ylmethylene)amino) phenol (HL¹), (E)-N¹-(quinolin-2-ylmethylene) benzene-1,3-diamine (L²) and (N¹E,N³E)-N¹,N³-bis(quinolin-2-ylmethylene) benzene-1,3-diamine (L³) and their complexes with Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) ions were prepared and subjected to many analytical techniques such as elemental analyses, mass spectroscopy, IR, 1H NMR, solid reflectance spectra, magnetic moment and molar conductance. Thermal analyses techniques (TG and DTG) were studied to throw more light on the nature of changes accompanying the thermal decomposition process of these complexes. The biological activity (antimicrobial and antifungal activity) of the Schiff base ligands and their complexes were also screened |
