Abstract Background:Renal replacement therapy (RRT) is used in a wide variety of pediatric populations as it becomes increasingly necessary for supporting critically ill children. Aim:This study was done to assess the percentage of critically ill children who admitted to PICU and need for renal replacement modalities. Also, to assess utilization, indications and outcome of the different modalities of renal replacement therapy employed in critically ill children admitted in PICU. Methods:This is observational study which included 44 cases that underwent renal replacement therapy during their admission in PICU in Abo Elreesh hospital of over period of six months from November 2017 till April 2018.Demographic data, mode of RRT, and associated factors were recorded. Results:We found that 4.5% of children who admitted in PICU underwent renal replacement therapy while 72.8% of them had acute peritoneal dialysis, 13.6% had acute intermittent hemodialysis and 13.6% had continuous renal replacement therapy. The mortality rate was 37%, the patients who developed CKD were 45% and 18% were completely recovered |
