Abstract

Introduction : SADI-S is a safe bariaric operation and the preservation of the pylorus and the first 3 cm of the duodenum avoids bathing of gastric mucosa with biliary and pancreatic fluids which surely leads to marginal ulcers, and reflux gastritis , and as pancreatobiliary secretions are the natural environment of the duodenum, so no damage is expected to happe Objectives : To compare between SADI-S procedure and Mini Gastric bypass (MGB) as regards excess body weight loss (EBWL) , reflux Gastritis and esophagitis. Methods : 17 patients underwent SADI-S procedure and 17 patients underwent MGB as primary operations for treatment of morbid obesity. Both groups were comparable for EBWL , biliary gastritis and reflux esophagitis . Data of was collected prospectively over the past 12 months Results : Mean hospital stay was lower in MGB ( 2.7 day vs. 3.24 day) Mean operation time was lower in the MGB(2.4 hours vs. 3 hours) Percentage of EBWL was higher in SADI-S (98.41vs. 68.28) ( P-Value < 0.001) Percentage of biliary Gastritis was lower in SADI-S ( 11.7%vs. 41.4%) Percentage of reflux esophagitis was lower in SADI-S (17.6%vs. 35.29%) There was no mortality in each group. Conclusion : SADI-S , when compared to OAGB , is more effective regarding weight loss. SADI-S , when compared to OAGB ,showed significant improvement of the GERD symptoms on long term follow up with very low incidence of biliary gastritis
