Abstract

Objectives: To determine if there is a relation between fetal Doppler indices and neonatal outcome in patients with severe preeclampsia at or above 34 weeks of gestation. Material and methods: The study was designed as prospective observational case control study. 60 pregnant women with severe preeclampsia at or above 34 weeks of gestation constituted the study group whereas 60 normotensive pregnant women with uneventful pregnancies matched for age, parity, and gestational age constituted the control group. Arterial blood pressure, Doppler indices (PI, RI, S/D ratio) of the umbilical and middle cerebral artery, cerebroplacental ratio (CPR), Apgar score at 1, 5 minutes, umbilical vein pH, birth weight were measured for all participants. Admission to NICU, and the occurrence of neonatal death were recorded for all participants. Proteinuria was assessed for pregnant women with hypertension
