Abstract Background:Diabetic nephropathy (DN) has been recognized as the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. Resveratrol, a polyphenolic compound, has diverse biological activities and has the potential to benefit in diabetes mellituspatients.Caloric restriction (CR) has been shown to reduce the incidence of age-related disorders and diabetes mellitus(DM).There isa direct link between sirtuin1(SIRT1) and the metabolic benefits of resveratrol and Caloric restriction. Objective:This study aimed to assessthe protective effect of resveratrol RSV and short term caloric restriction CR (SIRT1 activators) on diabetic nephropathy. Further, the possible role of them on metabolic disorders associated with diabetes mellitus. Methods: Forty eightmale albino rats were divided into controlgroup (GpI), diabetic (DM) group(GpII), (RSV+DM) group(GpIII) administered RSV 5mg/kg/day oraly for 2 months after induction of diabetes, (DM+CR) group (GpIV) subjected to 40% CR for 2 months after induction of diabetes |
