Abstract

Patellar fractures account about 1% of all fractures. Operative management is indicated with articular incongruity or fragments separation more than 2-3 mm. Modified anterior tension band technique is the most common technique used for fixation of patellar fractures. Certain complications related to wire have been quoted as being as frequent as 47%. 15-20% of patients treated with wire have been reported to require later removal. Many studies do claim that wire, particularly when it fails, is an irritant to the patient, and often requires further surgery thus exposing the patient to the theoretical risk of a further general anesthesia
