Abstract Objective:The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of 970 nm diode soft tissue laser on the total amount of periodontopathic bacteria in chronic periodontitis patients. Materials and methods: The present study was conducted on twenty patients categorized into two groups the first group was exposed to 970nm with power 2w with time intervals 30 seconds and 60 seconds, while the second group was exposed to 970nm with power 2.5w with time intervals 30 seconds and 60 seconds. Gingival crevicular fluid sample was collected from each patient from both groups and recording clinical parameters to detect the periodontal health for each patient. Results: According to the results in our study after installing 970nm diode laser with proper power and time it showed a significant reduction of periodontopathic bacteria. Consequently diode laser could be used as an adjunctive treatment with mechanical debridment for elimination of subgingival pathogenic microorganisms. Conclusion:1. Based on the obtained results, all doses of 970nm diode laser used with different time intervals and different doses reduced the number of periodontopathic bacteria. 2.The diode laser 2.5W+60 Sec. showed the highest reduction in the periodontopathic bacteria.3. The diode laser 970nm could be used as adjunctive aid with mechanical debridement for a better treatment of periodontitis |
