Abstract

Background: Obesity is an increasingly serious public health problem on a global level and associated with increased mortality and a high burden of obesity related morbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, co-arthritis and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. (LSG) was initially conceived as a potential first step prior to a more complex procedure (Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or biliopancreatic diversion{u2013}duodenal switch) to reduce the overall operative risk in super-obese or high-risk patients. One of these controversial points is the distance from the pylorus at which gastric division begins. The most conservative authors prefer to perform the section at more than 4 cm from the pylorus with the aim of improving gastric emptying and thus decreasing intraluminal pressure. Methods: A total of 50 morbidly obese patients were studied. Patients were randomized into two groups of (group A) total antral sacrifice 25 (50%) patients and (group B) antral conserving 25(50%) patients. All patients are interviewed (3, 6) months after LSG to evaluate food tolerance using 2Quality of Alimentation3 questionnaire. Patients{u2019} demographics and excess weight loss (%EWL) percent in both groups were analyzed. Results: The resolution in metabolic co-morbidities after 6 months was, (88.9%) for arterial hypertension, (81.8%) for type 2 diabetes, (75%) for OSAS and (66.7%) for Co-arthritis. Most of the co-morbidities were improved after LSG. There was no statistically significant difference between groups according to %EWL (3, 6) months after LSG (P value= 0.069) (P value= 0.083).There was statistically significant difference between groups according to food tolerance (3, 6) months after LSG P value= 0.001 P value= 0.012
