Abstract

Medical device-related pressure ulcers (MDRPUs) is skin breakdown related to certain medical devices which may be used in the Intensive Care Units for either therapeutic or monitoring reasons, approximately one third of the reported pressure ulcers were associated with medical devices. Patients had a medical device were (2.4) times more likely to develop a pressure ulcer of any kind. Aim: Examining the impact of a suggested nursing intervention protocol on occurrence of (MDRPUs) among critically Ill patients. The researchers select the Endo-tracheal tube (ETT) and Nasogastric tubes (NGT) to examine their association to develop pressure ulcers. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was utilized in this study. Sample: 100 patients were participated in our study divided into study and control groups. Result: The result of this study shows a highly statistically significance difference between study and control group in relation to prevalence of (ETT) pressure ulcers, the result showed that the prevalence of oral (ETT) pressure ulcers was (90%) decreased to (32.1%) after implementation the suggested nursing intervention protocol with ( p 0.004). However, the prevalence of (NGT) pressure ulcers were (77.8%) among control group and reduced to (13.1%) among study group with (p 0.002). Additionally, a significant correlations were found between (ETT) pressure ulcer occurrence and 2elderly of (ETT) insertion, smoking, comorbidity, length of stay, diagnoses3 p 0.013, 0.022, 0.023, 0.028, 0.32 respectively
