Abstract

Implant therapy is considered as the savor because of its capability to replace the lost tissues nevertheless the extent of destruction, loss or atrophy. Therefore the acceptance of implants as a first line treatment modality has increased, leading to the continuous advancements in the diagnostic tools aiding the treatment planning, improving the implant{u2019}s design, and materials so that many disputable clinical situations can be managed successfully. Appropriate and precise implant planning is one of the perquisites of implant success, what makes imaging plays a pivotal role for satisfactory results. Imaging plays an important role in dental implant procedures, as it provides reliable diagnostic information of the patient anatomy. Nowadays, various imaging techniques are abundant in the dental field, though the choosing the optimal imaging modality the suits the clinical situation should be taken in account. The risk to benefit ratio of each clinical situation should be evaluated independently, based on this the clinician should choose the imaging technique that best serves the case. Several factors should be taken in account as the desired image quality and the corresponding radiation dose, in addition to the expenses of the chosen modality, so that the maximum success is achieved. The conventional imaging modalities is not that advantageous in dental implantology. As the data acquired from the conventional imaging modalities are two dimensional for a three dimensional object, and this means that there is missed data which no doubt will lead to inaccurate diagnosis, less precise treatment plan and therefore unsatisfactory outcome
