Abstract

Preliminary results indicate that the Dynamic Cervical Implant implanted using a proper surgical technique is safe and facilitates excellent clinical outcomes, maintains index-and adjacent-level range of movement in the majority of cases, improves sagittal alignment, and may be suitable for patients with facet arthrosis who would otherwise not be candidates for cervical total disc replacement.Shock absorption together with maintained motion in the DCI may protect adjacent levels from early degeneration in longer follow-up. Disc replacement with DCI is a new strategy, in between ACDF & ADR. It is an intermediate solution in the spectrum of management strategies of cervical disc diseases. Immediate dynamic stability with good clinical response and no implant-related morbidity or complications are the main advantages of this implant There are several limitations in the current study. Our study sample is relatively small to reach generalizable results. The study was done on patients with single level cervical disc disease and we didn’t try on patients with multiple level disc disease. Also the DCI is expensive that can’t be afforded by any patient. The follow-up is limited up to 24 months. Future randomized large-scale multi-cohort studies are needed to find the actual role of DCI in our surgical armamentarium for managing degenerative spinal disorders.
