Abstract

The basement complex which is exposed in Sinai Peninsula forms the northeastern part of the Nubian Shield, covering about 14,000 km2 from the land surface of Egypt. Generally, the Arabian-Nubian Shield is characterized by the existence of volcano-sedimentary successions of greenschist facies metamorphism, ruptured ophiolitic complexes, gabbro diorite-tonalite complexes and unmetamorphosed volcanic and pyroclastic sequences that
are extensively intruded by batholithic granodiorite-granite complexes. Methods of studying include field work (collecting samples, lithologi description, field relation with the surrounding rocks), petrography
(preparing thin and thin-polished sections and description of the rock forming minerals) geochemical analyses (using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry to determine the major, trace and REE elements), mineral chemistry (By
Electron Microprobe for some minerals, such as amphiboles, biotites, plagioclase and chlorites)and isotopic studies(cathode luminescence photomicrographs of polished zircon grains using Scanning Electron
Microscope and laser-ablation-inductivity coupled plasma-mass spectrometry
(LA-ICP-MS for isotope ratios, U-Pb ages and detecting zircon geochemistry)
