Abstract

This experiment was carried out at the Animal Production
Experimental farm, Faculty of Agriculture, New Valley
University, Egypt. The study was started from May 2019 tell
September 2020 in New Valley governorate during summer
season.
A total number of twelve healthy Aberdeen Angus cows
about 7-8 years of age and an average body weight of 460-520 kg
and ten healthy Aberdeen Angus bulls average body weight of
210-220 kg were used in this study. The animals were divided
randomly in to two equal groups, viz, control group and betainesupplemented group, with six cows and five bulls in each group.
All cows were fed on basal diet which was formulated according
to NRC, (2000) for beef cattle. The basal diet consists of 60%
concentrate mixture and 40% wheat straw. Animals of the control
group received no supplementation , while the supplemented
group received 30g /betaine/ day for the entire period of the study
in addition to the regular maintenance diet.
The objective of the present study was to evaluate the
ability of betaine to overcome the harmful effects of heat stress
and its effect on productive and reproductive performance of
Aberdeen Angus cattle under New Valley hot climatic conditions. and compile evidence that betaine supplementation may be an
effective strategy to minimize the impact of heat stress in cows.
