Abstract

Summary
Health centers acquired infections are a worldwide problem, leading causes of death. Infection defines as a condition caused by invasion of the body or a body part by pathogenic organisms which multiplies and produces harmful effects on the body’s tissues .And infection control defines as the programmes of diseases surveillance, generally within health care facilities, designed to investigate ,prevent and control the spread of infections and their causative microorganisms, common purpose related to the health, performance goal and approach for which they hold themselves accountable Mahoney et al, (2008).
Aim of the study:
The aim of this study is to assess the compliance of hazardous waste disposal workers to infection control measures in outpatient clinics at Ain Shams University Hospitals.
Research setting:
The study was conducted in out patient clinics of (medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, and dental clinics) affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals.
Research subjects:
Workers who worked in outpatient clinics of Ain Shams University hospitals sample collected in three days per week from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm
Tools of data collection:
Data collection obtained by the following tools
a- First Part
• This Part Was Concerned with the Socio-demographic characteristics Worker (as age, level of education, marital status, address…..etc)
b- Second Part This Part Was Concerned With:
• Work condition as work duties, working hours’/day worker health problem, in service training and paste experience …….
c- Third part this part was prepared to assess workers knowledge about infection control measures
It is composed of 22 closed ended questions, constructed to reflect the infection control daily procedures covering the following activities hand washing, wearing protective equipment, dealing with waste.
The findings of the present study could be summarized as follows:
• More than half of workers in the study sample had good knowledge in infection control.
• Half of the workers in the study sample are suffering from health problems as hypertension, diabetes, rheumatoid and conjunctives.
• The results of the study showed that level of education more than quarter of the workers read and write.
• The results show that more than half of the workers receive training in infection control for once.
• The result showed that more than quarter of workers had needle stick injures twice and no action done from infection control.
• The results found that infection control supply not enough in most out patient clinics.
• The result found insignificance between socio-demographic characteristic and application of infection control measures.
• The result showed that significant relation between workers knowledge about infection control and their performance.
