Abstract This study was carried out at Sakha Agricultural Research Station Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, Cotton Research Institute, ARC, Egypt, during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The main objectives of this study are 1. Evaluate heterosis, combining ability for yield, yield components, morphological and physiological traits, and fiber properties. 2. Identify superior parents and cross combinations from 6×6 diallel crosses of cotton. 3. Study the magnitude of heterosis for growth traits, physiological traits also yield and its component and fiber properties. The experiment was laid out using a randomized complete block design with four replicates. Six genotypes representing a wide range of cotton characteristics were used as parents (Giza 86, Giza 87, Giza 89, Giza 94, Giza 36 and suvin). In the 2015 growing season, the six cotton genotypes crossed in a diallel mating scheme to obtain 15 single crosses. In the 2016 growing season, the six parents and their 15 F1 crosses were evaluated Each plot consisted of one row of 5.0 m in length and 0.70 m. in width. Seeds were sown in hills spaced 30 cm. apart, and two plants were left per hill at thinning time. The other ordinary practices of cotton cultivation were applied. |
