Abstract

Patient safety is a fundamental component of healthcare quality.(164) Assessment of PSC offers insight to the institution about perceptions and attitudes of both administrators and staff related to PS. Furthermore, it is meant to improve performance rather than condemning individuals. (200)
The aim of this study is to assess PSC from health care staff perspective and implement birthing unit surgical safety checklist-based intervention in El-Shatby University Hospital for gynecology and obstetrics (EUHGO).
For fulfillment of this aim, a cross sectional survey was adopted to assess PSC as perceived by the study participants. It was conducted over three month’s period (from November 2020 to January 2021). A total of 71 questionnaires were distributed to eligible participants with response rate 92.9 %( 66 out of 71). This study aimed at exploring the areas of inadequacies and opportunities for improvement concerning patient safety culture.
Also, a quasi-experimental strategy (pre-and post-intervention) was adopted to assess the compliance rate (intra-operative adherence) of the surgical team with the items of SSCL for obstetrics in operating theatre before and after implementation of educational sessions concerning SSCL for obstetrics.
