Abstract

In last decades, advancement of materials has been immense. The bioglass is a class of materials that used in the replacement of tissue should have some characteristics. So, the bioactive glass materials used for bio applications must be compatible, nontoxic and have antibacterial and antifungal action. Now researchers intensive their efforts to produce bioactive glass with optimum properties. At present the healing of soft tissues is mainly attributed to improve the angiogenesis so, the healing of the wounds is a major challenge in medicine in connection with surgical sutures, oral infections and chronic wounds such as non-healing diabetic ulcers. A few trace elements were added to bioactive glass structure to improve the properties of the glass according to their purposes. Several metallic ions have antibacterial characteristics that help to prevent infection and shorten the inflammatory phase of wound healing. Bioactive glasses also, functionalized as a promising material for the controlling of tissue-related disorders.
