Abstract The astronomy played a vital role in the life of the ancient Egyptians and also in their afterlife. They used the astronomy to calculate time, hours, days, months and seasons too. They were great observers of the sky and its heavenly objects and they tried to connect between their celestial observations and their deities. In addition, they decorated most of their tombs and temples with astronomical ceilings. The earliest decorative astronomical ceiling is attested in the tomb of Senenmut from 18th dynasty. Starting from this time, there are many tombs and temples decorated with astronomical scenes on their ceilings. The study sheds light on the different astronomical representations of the goddesses in the Egyptian tombs and temples from the New Kingdom to the Græco-Roman period. |
