Abstract

Background: Vitamin D deficiency affects individuals in all age groups worldwide. The aim: This study aimed to identify the efficacy of interval training combined with vitamin D supplementation on quality of life in women with non specific muscle pain. Methods: Forty five women complaining from non specific muscle pain with vitamin D deficiency recruited from the outpatient clinic of orthopedic department at Nassar hospital in Shoubra El Khaima participated in this study. Their age ranged from 30 to 40 years. They were assigned randomly into 3 groups. group (A) included 15 patients who participated in an interval training exercise program with vitamin D supplementation. group (B) included 15 patients who received vitamin D supplementation only. group (C) included 15 patients who participated in an interval training exercise program only. The interval training exercises(70% maxHR) were conducted for one hour, three times per week on a total period of 12 weeks. The patients{u2019} pain were assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Venous blood sample was analyzed to measure serum vitamin D level. Cooper 12-Minute Walk Test (12MWT) was used to evaluate the functional capacity of the patients. The quality of life was a assessed by short form health survey (SF-12).The results: The results revealed a significant decrease in VAS and significant increase in serum vitamin D level and both components of SF-12 in all groups with significant difference between group A and either of (B and C).Results also revealed a significant increase in the distance walked in 12MWT in groups (A and C) with no significant change in group (B). Among groups, there were no significant differences between groups (A and C) with significant differences between either of them and group (C). (p<0.05)
