Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the bone formation around dental implants placed simultaneously in posterior maxilla using Tutogen xenograft material versus autagenous bone graft. In this study 20 implants were placed for 14 male patients with atrophied posterior maxillary region and/or excessively pneumatized maxillary sinus. All the patients were free from any systemic disease that might complicate the surgical procedure or the bone healing around implants. In the present study, sinus floor elevation was carried out through an osteotomy performed on the lateral wall of the sinus with rotary instruments used under copious saline irrigation to the point at which the surgeon can visualize the dark inner lining of the sinus membrane. After the elevation of the membrane the implants were placed and the sinus was grafted using Tutogen Xenografts graft material. In all 7 patients implants placed immediately after the lateral approach procedure to create a maxillary sinus lift, no patients developed sinusitis or other complications leading to loss of an implant subsequent to performance of the sinus lifting-combined immediate implant surgery. All 14 fixtures healed well, no infection &/or implant mobility was observed on initiation of loading force from the prosthetic components. 89 Follow up radiographic examination was carried out immediate, 3 months and 6 months postoperatively using digital panoramic radiographs. The marginal bone loss and bone density around the implant were measured to evaluate implant survival rate. The graft density and height were evaluated in all patients.The implant stability was measured on the same follow up intervals using the resonance frequency analysis. The results of the present study showed that the bone density had been increased during the healing of the implants except in the first month the bone density had been decreased. The analysis of the effect of different variables on the bone density showed that there was no statistically significant relation between the use of Tutogen grafts and autogenous bone
