Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is a major obstetric problem and a significant cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. We aim to determine maternal and perinatal outcomes in severe pre eclamptic patients in relation to the presence or absence of ascites . Methods: The study was designed as a cohort study in the Obstetrics and Gynecology hospital, Kasr El Aini between February 2019 to August 2019. One hundred severe pre eclamptic patients were recruited, 50 patients with ascites were included in the case group; while another 50patients without ascites were included in the control group. Primary outcome was the composite maternal adverse outcome as development of eclampsia, renal failure, ICU admission, transfusion of blood products, doses of medications needed to control blood pressure. Secondary outcome was NICU admission, APGAR score and birth weight. Results: There was statistically significant oliguria preoperative and postoperative for 1st 6hrs in case group. There was statistically significant higher rate of ICU admission (76% cases vs. 4% control, p<0.001).ents without ascites (84% cases vs18% control, p<0.001)
