Abstract

Lateral condyle fractures of the distal humerus are the second most common fractures at the elbow in the pediatric population usually between the ages of 6-10 years old making up 5-20% of fractures in children. The aim of the present study was to assess the early results of patients with a displaced neglected lateral humeral condyle fracture treated with open reduction and internal fixation.
This interventional case series study was conducted at the Orthopedics department of Suez Canal University hospitals (SCUH), Ismailia, Egypt. The study included 17 children who were presenting to Orthopedic clinic or emergency department at Suez Canal University Hospital with neglected lateral humeral condyle fracture.
Patients aged 3-14 years, both genders, with lateral humeral condyle fracture >3 weeks <12weeks and delayed or Non united lateral humeral condyle fracture in pediatric with displacement more or than 2mm were included in the study.
Patients with multiple skeletal fractures, pathological fracture, open fractures, patients with associated elbow dislocation and fractures more than 16 weeks due to risk of avascular necrosis (9) were excluded from the study.
Patients aged 3-10 years, both genders, with lateral humeral condyle fracture (3-12weeks) and delayed or non united lateral humeral condyle fracture in pediatric with displacement more than 2mm. all patients had displacement, malunion, poor range of motion, poor Flynn`s score, and liver pool elbow and Dihilon score ranged from (1-2). Patients had Bowman`s
