Abstract

Guava one of the most common fruits in Egypt, that are infected by several diseases. This study focused on the most important post-harvest diseases. Pathogenicity, host range, morphological, physiological characteristics and disease control in vitro and in vivo were studied. Guigonardia mangiferae, Colletotrichum gloeosporiodes, and Pestalotiopsis psidii were isolated from guava. Natural oil studies showed that the oregano oil was the most effective oil on inhibited mycelial growth of C. gloeosporiodes, P. psidii and G. mangiferae. Effect of control treatment on fruit quality showed that the color of guava peel changed from green-yellow to brown with oregano oil treatment, while cinnamon oil was the best treatment used in management of guava fruit rots. Cinnamon oil showed positive results in controlling guava fruit rots and extended the shelf life of guava fruits.
Key words: Guava, Guigonardia mangiferae, Natural oil, oregano oil, post-harvest.
