Abstract

Background: Neurological disorders are a major cause of disability and mortality worldwide. Knowledge about patterns and epidemiology of such conditions is essential for better management. Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the pattern of neurologic conditions in Egypt over a period of six months in a sample of Egyptian children following up at Abo El-Rish neurology clinic. Patients and methods: This was an Observational descriptive prevalence study based on patients’ records in pediatric neurology clinic at the Social and Preventive Medicine Building at Abo El-Rish Hospital, Cairo University, during the period of six months from January to June 2019. Results: Epilepsy was the most prevalent neurological disorder in the study accounted for about 783 cases (277.75 cases per 1000 case). Followed by global developmental delay for differential diagnosis representing 484 cases (171.69 cases per 1000 cases). Metabolic disorders cases accounted for 328 cases (116.35 cases per 1000 cases). Cerebral palsy encountered in 204 cases (72.3 cases per 1000 case). Conclusion: Neurological disorders in pediatrics are so common and this constitute a major burden on Egyptian children especially epilepsy and global developmental delay
