Abstract Objective: To determine and compare the effect of abdominal binder (AB) and kinesiology taping (KT) on early postoperative pain relief after caesarean delivery. Methods: A randomized controlled study was undertaken for singleton women undergoing elective or emergency lower-segment CS at Kasr Al Ainy University Hospital during the period from June 2020 to December 2020. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) using computer-generated random numbers to receive the abdominal binder or KT in recovery after caesarean section. Postoperative pain assessment was done by using visual analog scale (VAS) and observation of patient satisfaction by using likert scale. Main outcome measures: postoperative pain relief by non-pharmacological technique after CS. Results: The result of the present study revealed that kinesiology tape was more effective for early postoperative pain relief when compared to abdominal binder. The present study showed that visual analog score were significantly lower in women with kinesiology tape in 8 hour (43.74 ±20.45), in 12 hour (37.50 ±19.23) and 24 hour (24.84 ±13.36) compared to women with abdominal binder in 8 hour (56.36 ±15.63), 12 hour (58.51 ±17.96) and 24 hour (43.32 ±16.43) (P=0.0001).Conclusions: The present study has demonstrated that postoperative application of kinesiology tape has a better effect and is safe to use for postoperative pain relief after caesarean section as a non-pharmacological technique in comparison with abdominal binder. Additionally, secondary outcome as time of first nursing (breast feeding) was found that the women who applied kinesiology tape started the nursing significantly earlier than women who applied abdominal binder |
