Abstract

Nurse satisfaction and nurse scheduling are the major factors that improve quality of patient care. Long working hours contribute to poor patient outcomes which affects patient satisfaction and quality of care. Aim: investigate the relationship between staff nurses{u2019} satisfaction with their schedule and patients’ satisfaction with quality of care. Design: A descriptive correlational design was utilized for this study. Setting: The study was conducted in One-Day Surgeries Hospital, Nasr City, Cairo. Sample: Two samples were included in the study: convenient sample of nurses (36), and a random randomization sample of patients (50). Tools: two tools: a developed questionnaire about nurses{u2019} satisfaction with their schedule, and an adopted questionnaire about patients{u2019} satisfaction with quality of care. Results: revealed that the total mean percent of nurses{u2019} satisfaction with their schedule was 61.6%, which indicate moderate dissatisfaction. As well as the mean percent about total patients{u2019} satisfaction about quality of care was (64.5%), which indicate moderate dissatisfaction.There was no statistical significant positive correlation (r=.113, P=.51) between patients{u2019} satisfaction with quality of care and nurses{u2019} satisfaction with their schedule. Conclusion: nurses were moderately dissatisfied with their schedule, also, patients were moderately dissatisfied with quality of care, and there was no statistical significant correlation between nurses{u2019} satisfaction with their schedule and patients’ satisfaction with quality of care. Recommendations: Increase staff participation in schedule and include preferences. Include nurses, who work extended shifts, in health promotion and disease prevention programs. Improve housekeeping services for patients’ satisfaction
