Abstract The eye; a specialized light sensitive sensory structure possessing unique anatomic and physiological properties. It can be divided into two main segments; the anterior and the posterior. The anterior segment is the forward-facing one third region amid the cornea and the lens. On the other hand, the posterior segment presents the latter two thirds of the eye from the lens to the optic nerve, passing through the vitreous humor. Delivering drugs to the posterior region of the eye remains a challenge up to this day. The unique structure of the eye renders the passage of drugs extremely difficult as it combats multiple barriers of various properties. |
