Abstract The present investigation carried out to evalu-ate and estimate the stability of 13 Egyptian cotton genotypes (G.barbadense L.) for seed cotton yield character from two categories (1) long staple, i.e. 5 Lines F.10 (Menoufy × Suvin), 1 line F.10 (Giza 87×Pima S6), Menoufy, Suvin, Pima S6, Giza 86, Giza 94 and two varieties extra-long staple, i.e. Giza 92, and Giza 96 at three different locations in the lower Egypt i.e. Kafr El-Sheikh, Damietta and Sharkia, during the two growing seasons 2016 and 2017. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with three replications. Seed cotton yield character showed significant mean squares for environments, genotypes and genotypes x environments interaction. The genotypes Giza 86, Pima S6 and line No. 5 recorded average stable while two varieties Giza 86 and Pima S6 were general adaptability across a wide range of environment. Genotypes from divergent clusters divided to 5 divergent groups can be used for hybridization in order to isolate useful recombinants in the segregating generations. Therefore, may be recommended to be released as stable high yielding and/or be incorporated as breeding stock in any future breeding program aiming for producing stable high. |
