Abstract UV filters recently gained a lot of interest as they are intended to protect human skin against UV radiation, and for this reason they are increasingly added to many personal care products. This thesis deals with the study of different UV filters namely Benzophenone-4 (BZ4) and Benzophenone-3 (BZ3) in combination with Octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC) as a coformulated drug. Different analytical techniques including chromatographic, spectroscopic and electrochemical ones were adopted for the determination of the studied drugs either in their pure form or their pharmaceutical formulations. Different experimental conditions were studied till reaching the optimum conditions. The chromatographic methods utilize the power of HPLC and TLC densitometry for quantification of the studied drugs in their pure form and in presence of their stress induced degradation products. While different spectroscopic methods were introduced for BZ4 determination with acceptable results. Finally two electrochemical methods were developed and validated implying novel modified MWCNTs sensor in addition to molecularly imprinted polymer modified Carbon paste sensor for highly sensitive determination of BZ4. All suggested methods were validated according to ICH guide lines and compared statistically to reported methods where no significant difference regarding accuracy and precision was observed |
