Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the effect of pulsed electromagnetic field versus interferential current on abdominal fat thickness in postnatal women. This study included sixty obese postnatal womenselected randomly from Kasr El Ainy University Hospital in Cairo. This study enlisted the participation of multipara women. Their ages ranged between 30 and 40 years. The BMI of the participants ranged between 30 to 39.9 kg/m2. Their births were vaginal deliveries and caesarian sections. They were chosen at least two years after the previous delivery. During the study, they did not use any fat-burning drugs. Women with active kidney or hepatic disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, pregnancy, pacemaker, psychosis, thyroid disease, central nervous system dysfunction, mental retardation and cancer are excluded from the study. Design of the study wastwo groups{u2019} pre-test and post-test experimental design. They were divided randomly into two groups (A&B) equal in number. group A included thirty postnatal women treated with pulsed electromagnetic field on the abdomen. Each session was about 20 minutes, 3 times per week, for 4 weeks. group B included thirty postnatal women treated with the interferential current on the abdomen. Each session was about 20 minutes, 3 times per week, for 4 weeks. BMI was evaluated by weight and height scale, waist circumference (WC) was evaluated by tape measurement, abdominal skin fold thickness was evaluated by skin fold caliper and blood lipids profile (total cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein, Very low density lipoprotein and high density lipoprotein) were evaluated for both groups (A&B) before and after treatment. Results of this study showed that; within groups, there were significant reduction of BMI, WC, abdominal skin fold thickness and blood lipids profile (total cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein and VLDL) and significant increase in high density lipoprotein in both groups (A&B) post treatment in compare to pre treatment
