Abstract Background. Hearing-impaired children display motor deficits and more specifically balance deficits in the postural control. Purpose: to detect the effectiveness of brain gym exercises on postural control and quality of life in students with hearing impairement. Methods. Asingle before and after experimental design without control group was performed, the study involve twenty six students with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss , aged between seven and ten years , of both gender , fulfilling inclusion criteria.One group participated in the intervention in which static and dynamic balance were measured using bruininks osertesky test of motor proficiency 2nd edition(BOTs) , and health related quality of life recorded by peds quality of life inventory inventory.The students were trained 1 hour per day 3 times a week on brain gym activities for 12 weeks, and pre and post intervention values were measured.Result.There was a significant increase in point score, scale score of BOTs and HRQOL score post treatment compared with that pre treatment in the study group (p < 0.001).There was no significant difference in point score between girls and boys (p > 0.05), while there was a significant increase in scale score of boys pre treatment compared with that of girls (p = 0.02) and no significant difference post treatment (p > 0.05).There was no significant difference in point score between 7.1-8.8 months and 8.9-10.8 months age groups (p > 0.05), while there was a significant increase in scale score of 7.1-8.8 months age group pre treatment compared with that of 8.9-10.8 months age group (p = 0.008) and no significant difference post treatment (p > 0.05) |
