Abstract

Aim: Evaluate alveolar and soft tissue changes surrounding immediate implant in the mandibular molars with and without using sealing socket abutment technique.Methodology: Twenty patients with a single failing tooth in the mandibular molar area were randomly distributed into two groups. Study casts were taken before treatment. In both groups we used atraumatic extraction and implant placed immediately and then we used bone graft material to fill spaces. With group A immediate temporary restoration used to seal of the socket, while with group B collagen sponge was used to close the socket. Radiographs were taken immediately after extraction and implant placement, and after 6 months. All patients received the final prosthetic restoration 12 weeks after implant placement. Results: The mean width reduction of group A is 1.75± 0.47 compared to 4.06±0.9 in group B. The mean bone resorption was 1.04±0.27mm for group A and was 2.42±0.7 in group B. The survival rate of both groups was 100% with no implant failure. Conclusions: Socket Sealing Abutment appears to reduce total width reduction and marginal bone loss. It seems to be simple, minimally invasive procedure for both patient and operator that not require highly experienced surgeon
