Abstract

Aim: to compare fracture resistance of implant assisted overdenture for different types of denture base materials including heat cure acrylic, polyamide and acetal denture base materials using Instron universal testing machine with Blue-hill software to measure the magnitude of the maximum force applied on the overdenture immediately before fracture. Methodology: A completely edentulous mandibular epoxy resin cast was used for implant placement and overdenture construction. The position of the two implants in the epoxy resin cast at the canine area was marked by a notch so it will be transferred during duplication of casts to three identical stone casts to determine placement of attachments. Construction of three trial denture base from wax pattern on three stone cast in a conventional way then processing was occurred and transferred of metal housing within nylon cap to denture by direct technique. Every overdenture will be used with a different study group to standardize the outcome and eliminate the divergence of the result due to the differences of the condition. The three overdentures will be placed on the floor of the instron universal testing machine with Blue-hill software and gradual force will be applied at lower five and six bilaterally of the overdenture and the force will be applied until fracture take place. The data collected will be obtained and statistically analyzed. Results: The fracture resistance test results revealed that the highest mean values of the fracture loads were found in the overdenture with heat cured acrylic denture base material group but there was no statistical significant difference between polyamide and acetal
