Abstract

The concept of a mobile-bearing (MB) TKA is an attempt to reach a satisfactory balance by combining both design approaches: conforming tibio-femoral articular surfaces to decrease bearing contact stresses combined with bearing mobility to reduce stresses transmitted to the bone- cement interfaces. Thus, MB designs would not be as rotationally constraining as fixed bearing (FB) conforming implants and would provide increased motion clinically and improved knee kinematics of both femoro- tibial and patello-femoral articulations. In addition, maintenance of articulation congruity throughout the range of motion would lead to lower wear rates and therefore improved durability (3). The objective of this prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) was to prospectively compare the short-term functional outcomes of FB and MB
