Abstract

Women throughout different ages have been the backbone of societies. In ancient Egypt women’s role was not restricted to be a wife or a mother. She participated as a fundraising source for her family.
The body language is a type of nonverbal communication that delivers messages about specific people, occupations, particular cultures, situations. This thesis displays some scenes for women in ancient Egyptian private tombs to indicate aspects of their body languages represented in the body posture, gestures, heads, eye, direction of the arms, hands, and legs.
This to signify the feelings of the women in moments of performing their daily life and to indicate their body language like the posture, gestures, and eye direction.
The study of gestures and postures of women in the private tombs’ iconography aims to describe and interpret nonverbal communication in women`s real-life scenes.
The body language of women in ancient Egypt is detected in various contexts. One of these contexts is clearly represented daily life and occupational scenes. Body language is a type of nonverbal communication that delivers messages about specific people, occupations, particular cultures, situations, etc.
This thesis aims to highlight the body language of women in ancient Egypt through scenes of the private tombs. There are five objectives of this study:1) to display women body language of scenes in the private tombs in Ancient Egypt during the Old, Middle and New Kingdom, 2) to classify the different group of gestures of women body language, 3) detect their body language development through ages, 4) to discuss the different types of gestures and their meaning, 5) and finally compare between the Ancient and modern body language of women in Egypt through images.
