Summary
ARF and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) affect about 16 million people worldwide and leads to 250,000 deaths every year. It constitutes 25- 40% of all cardiovascular disease in developing countries. More than 80% of affected children younger than 15 years of age belong to the regions of the world where RHD is endemic. Around 8 million school children require further treatment to prevent morbidity and mortality .
The aim of the present study was to explore the situation about rheumatic fever. Understand regarding the current situation about rheumatic fever among children (6-12) years.
The present study was a case control study conducted from the beginning of January 2017 till the beginning of January 2021 in El-Mahalla Rheumatic Heart Disease center. All children that attended El-Mahalla Rheumatic Heart Disease center and from El- Mahalla El-Koubra during the period of data collection (four year) from the 1st of January 2019 to 1st of January 2020 for follow-up were included in the present study.
This study was carried out on to divide groups:
group (A) (patient group): Primary school children aged (6-12) years with rheumatic fever attending El-Mahalla Rheumatic Heart Disease centre in El-Gharbia governorate.
group (B) (Control group): Children attending to center (with the same characters) for screening and were unconfirmed ARF.
All the studied children were subjected to a structured validated self-designed questionnaire to collect personal data, sociodemographic characteristics, and assessment of risk factors for ARF, II. Physical examination and laboratory investigations.
