Abstract Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract which is immune mediated and relapsing and remittent in behavior affecting GI tract from mouth to anus in a patchy manner. It is a result of genetic and immune and environmental factors that interact together to form this pattern of inflammation. Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic inflammation of the colon which is immune mediated and relapsing and remittent in behavior affecting only the mucosa of the colon in a continuous manner. It is also formed because of interaction between genetic, immune, and environmental factors. Gut microbiome is a collection of different types of commensal bacteria that live in the mucosa of the GI tract and have some beneficial functions to the body and harmful functions. If the normal balance of these bacteria is maintained, there will not be any disease. But, if this balance is disturbed, there will be a disease, and this disturbance is called “Dysbiosis”. This study was conducted to identify this dysbiosis changes in the two diseases in relation to the normal persons to use it as marker to differentiate the two diseases and to use it in treatment strategy for these diseases. |
