Abstract

Background: Oral health is an important aspect of general health that allows an individual to perform functions as mastication, speech, and even social interaction. The importance of oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) is highlighted in research nowadays. Gingivitis is the commonest oral disease in children and adolescents. It is basically the inflammation of the gingival tissue excluding any attachment and or bone loss. Oral health education is considered an effective method to improve oral and specifically gingival status in adolescence and children. Implementing oral health education programs on short time intervals can assist in improving gingival health. Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an oral hygiene health educational program on the oral health related quality of life and gingival status in a group of 11 to 14 years old Egyptian children. Subjects and methods: 91 participants 11-14 years-old Egyptian children from New-Giza University outpatients{u2019} clinic were recruited and attended the first and second visits when the educational program was introduced. After three months OHRQoL was evaluated using the Arabic version of the regression short form (RSF) of Child perception questionnaire 11-14 (CPQ 11-14). Results: Within the limitations of the study, it was found that males represented 40 (44%), while females represented 51 (56%). And there was insignificant difference between them. While the mean ± standard deviation of studied population age was (11.97 ± 1.169) years. There was a statistically significant difference between OHRQoL before and after the intervention in the tested sample. vii Comparison between the digital photographs both polarized and non-polarized before and after the intervention showed no statistical difference in gingival redness in the tested sample
