Abstract

The role of media in influencing governments and politicians to change and affect public opinion is significant. Government and political leaders use the media to construct the reality that they want the public to believe. This thesis examines how the Egyptian Online newspapers frame some of Egypt’s most significant political and societal issues under the presidential period of the Egyptian President Abd El Fattah El Sisi, mainly in 2019-2020. The researcher conducts an analytical study on how the media frames major political and societal actions taken by the Egyptian government. She conducts a content analysis of three online newspapers: Al-Youm7, Al-Ahram and Al-Wafd on these issues War on Terrorism, the Educational Development and the 100 Million Health Campaign. Also, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews were conducted to assess the impact of media framing on persuading citizens The findings show that the frames used by different media platforms in conveying political and societal messages impact the audiences{u2018} perception and interpretation of the messages. Framing and persuading through online newspapers are used by the government as an effective tool to change people{u2018}s attitudes and perceptions regarding an issue by using credible sources and continuous coverage
