Abstract

Background Bruxism can cause wear of teeth, hypertrophy of masticatory muscle, may produce aseptic inflammation of skeletal TM muscle tissue and myofibrositic injury. but there are few studies investigating the effectiveness of MTrP pressure release for the treatment of Bruxism. Purposes to Investigate the effect of Trigger Point Pressure release and Deep striking massage on pain level, Range of Motion (ROM) and sleep quality index in patients with bruxism Participants , Material and Methods pre-test / post-test Randomized Control Trial study was conducted in the out-patient clinic at Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University to detect effect of manual therapy on jaw ROM of: (jaw opening, right lateral, left lateral movements, protrusion and retraction) using Vernier caliper, and pressure pain threshold (PPT) of: (bilateral temporalis, masseter, lateral pterygoid and digastric muscles) using Egyptian algometer, and sleep quality using Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). 45 patients referred from a dentist from out-clinic of faculty of dentist Cairo university. Each group (n=15) They were assigned as group I protocol guideline in form of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and stretching therapy and consisted of (5 males and 10 females), group II deep striking massage and consisted of (2 males and 13 females), group III pressure release massage consisted of (4 males and 11 females). Results compare result between post treatment among groups, found that deep striking massage has significant effect over control group and pressure release massage in PSQI and pressure pain threshold improvement. after 12 weeks, the intervention group II showed statistically as well as clinically significant differences compared with the group I on the primary and secondary outcome measures more than the intervention group III
