Abstract

Total Knee Replacement (TKR) remains the surgical gold
standard treatment for patients suffering from end-stage osteoarthritis, a patients’ self-management is crucial factor in optimizing the patient’s quality of life. Aim: This study aimed to assess self- care management of post knee replacement surgery and its relation to patients’ quality of life. Subjects and Method: A descriptive research design was utilized. Purposive sample of total knee replacement patients (100) outpatient clinics in University Mansoura Hospital. Tools: Tool I: A Structured interview, It included two parts, part 1: Patient’s socio-demographic characteristics, part 2: patient history and factors related joint, Tool II: Self- care behavior assessment scale, Tool III: Short form survey 36 questions (SF-36) to assess quality of life. Results: This study showed that 85% of studied patients had high level of self- care management. Also, 62% of the studied patients had good quality of life. Conclusion: The study concluded that majority of the studied patients had high total self-care management; about nearly two thirds of the studied patients had good quality of life. There was statistically significant correlation between self-care management domains and quality of life. Recommendation: The study recommended comprehensive rehabilitation program for patients with total knee replacement surgery.
